K.M. & C.A Marslen and staff provide prompt friendly and reliable service to the farming community in West and Central Gippsland.  Our JCB and Hino spreaders can service all spreading needs of bulk fertiliser, nitrogen, seed broadcasting and soil amendments such as lime, gypsum and dolomite. Both spreaders are computer controlled and have GPS guidance fitted for accurate spreading.

As part of our commitment to minimising environmental impacts we are able to provide bulk fertiliser in large volumes without dumping on the ground.  The feeder trailers are used to deliver bulk material which is fed directly into the spreaders on site.

The spreader units and operators are Fertcare accredited and AFSA certified and tested ensuring efficient, accurate and reliable results for all our work on your property.

Training in Fertcare accreditation involves extensive tuition for all staff on environmental impacts of the use of fertilisers in agriculture.  This ensures correct advice and application of product for our customers to help achieve an optimum economic return on your farm.

PRESCRIPTION BLEND

We are able to blend and provide prescription blends of fertiliser using base blend ingredients mixed through the Doyle blender at the depot.  This enables our customers to order specific N.P.K.S. blends for accuracy and flexibility of nutrient requirements on farm.  Our blending provides high quality low dust product quickly and efficiently at the local level.  An effective way to determine your N.P.K.S. needs is to have your soil sampled by our agent agronomist.  Incorporating trace elements into your fertiliser blends gives us full flexibility to provide any product needed by modern farming enterprises.

The four key nutrients are Nitrogen (N), Phosphorous (P), Potassium (K) and Sulphur (S) hence the acronym N.P.K.S. blends derived from their respective chemical symbol.  All modern application of nutrients for plant growth is defined in terms of kilograms of nutrient per hectare, which has given rise for the need to blend products in a much more flexible and broader sense than in the past.  With the addition of trace elements into prescription blends any nutrient requirements for plant growth can be met through K.M & C.A Marslen.  Soil sampling and tissue testing will provide the information necessary to formulate a prescription blend.  Experienced staff using computer models determine the type of products best suited for your enterprise on economic and agronomic grounds.

Trace elements can readily and accurately be incorporated into a prescription fertiliser to provide the micronutrients essential for plant growth. Copper, molybdenum, zinc, magnesium and boron are the principle trace elements stocked. When using trace elements our staff can provide advice on rates of application, frequency of application, potential toxicity and with holding periods if any. When applying trace elements accuracy is essential and our bulk spreaders are ideally suited to the task.

Soil sampling and tissue testing are indispensable tools of modern farming.  K.M & C.A Marslen have an agent agronomist to take representative soil samples, provide an interpretation and recommendation based on the test results.  This then provides the basis for your N.P.K.S. blend and or prescription fertiliser.

Agricultural lime is an essential soil amendment for pasture-based enterprises and horticulture in Gippsland.  Typically soils in Gippsland have a pH (water) range of 5.2 to 5.5 commonly they are less than 5.2.  This is not conducive to maximise pasture production or quality and reduces horticultural crop yields.

            MAJOR BENEFITS OF LIME:

bullet

Reduces soil acidity

bullet

Reduces Aluminium

bullet

Releases soil nutrients

bullet

Increases calcium levels

bullet

Improves fertiliser efficiency

bullet

Improves soil structure

bullet

Improves microbial activity

bullet

Balances nutrients

Applying lime at a minimum rate of 2.5 Tn. per hectare will provide the above benefits. Some properties will need higher application rates if pH is very low.  Gypsum is applied to correct sodic soils by removing sodium from the soil, it will also increase sulphur levels applied at lower rates.  Typically to improve soil structure and remove sodium, application rates are between 2-5 Tn. per hectare.

Dolomite will help to correct pH levels and add magnesium if there is a deficiency of this trace element at rates of 2.5 Tn. per hectare.

We can supply and spread all these products at competitive prices throughout the year, depending on weather conditions.
